The Supreme Court today directed all states to respond in a suo motu petition for evolving a common agency to hold selections to the subordinate judiciary across the country..A Bench of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justices AK Goel and AM Khanwilkar today heard Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar before asking all states to file their responses before June 30..The Court also made it clear that it will not tinker with the existing mode or method of selection of judges followed by different states. Instead, it said, it will try to form a common agency to hold the different exams. It said,.“The endeavour is not to touch the federal structure. Even the mode of selection process followed by different states will not be touched. The object is to have a common agency to conduct the selection process.”.The Court also made it clear that evolving a common agency would help hold the selection process on a regular basis with defined timelines..“This will help fill up vacancies”, remarked CJI Khehar..The Court then asked the States to file their responses on or before June 30. The matter will now be heard on July 10 at 3 pm.
