Amarendra Sharan was not just an outstanding Lawyer but a fine example of what a great human being ought to be. He was extraordinarily courteous, ever so smiling, ever ready to help and spotless in character. In corridors of Supreme Court or in the Court Rooms, he was simply a joy to come across.

His untimely death has brought grief all around. His death has left such a void that everyone is suddenly asking why would God take him away and so soon.

True, Gandhiji once said, “Life and death are but phases of the same thing, the reverse and observe of the same coin. Death is as necessary for man’s growth as life itself.” But Amarendra’s life was yet to grow to the fullest. Yet in his short life, he not only achieved a lot but contributed much to the Society. He became a highly respected Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court not just by sheer hard work but by cultivating the finest qualities that a good lawyer must possess.

Simply brilliant, always well prepared in Law and Facts, ever ready to argue, highly persuasive, courteous to the Bench and Bar and kind to the Litigants. He served Administration of Justice well. Yet, strong in his conviction and stood tall before judges, even when provoked. His smile did not disappear.

At the Bar, he was a true friend of all. Those of us who knew him little more personally, he was always encouraging and supportive. He regaled us with stories after stories, making us laugh and ponder on serious issues side by side.

He lived the proverb, “Do not seek death. Death will find you. But seek the road which makes death fulfilling.”

We can only find solace in the words of Tagore,

“Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves.”

His life was both.

May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
