CLAT 2019 postponed to May 26 in view of Lok Sabha elections

The 2019 edition of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2019) has been rescheduled to May 26, from 3 pm to 5 pm.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the CLAT Consortium held today.

Speaking to Bar & Bench, CLAT 2019 Convenor and Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Odisha Prof Srikrishna Deva Rao confirmed that the exam has been postponed in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Phase 6 of the elections are scheduled to be conducted on May 12, the initial date of the CLAT 2019 exam.

Prof Rao also stated that the last date for submission of applications has been changed to April 15. The initial last date for submitting applications was March 31.

Online applications for the exam opened on January 13 this year.

As reported earlier, pursuant to the decision of the CLAT Consortium formed late last year, CLAT 2019 will be offline.

Like previous editions, the UG paper of CLAT 2019 will be out of 200 marks, and candidates will be tested on English (40 marks), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (50 marks), Mathematics (20 marks), Legal Aptitude (50 marks), and Logical Reasoning (40 marks). There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.

This year’s exam will be held for admission to 21 National Law Universities. Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU Jabalpur) is the latest inductee into the CLAT fold.

Apart from the NLUs, 17 private law colleges have signed an MoU with the Consortium to use CLAT scores for admission.
