CLAT-2010 to take place on May 9

The CLAT consists of two entrance tests, one for admission to the undergraduate LLB programme and the other for the postgraduate LLM programme..The organizing university for the CLAT this year is NLIU Bhopal. The organizing university is fixed by rotation, with NLSIU Bangalore having organized the first CLAT in 2008, and Nalsar, Hyderabad, organizing the tests this year. Currently, eleven universities admit students on the basis of the CLAT: NLSIU, Bangalore; Nalsar, Hyderabad; NUJS, Kolkata; NLIU, Bhopal; NLU, Jodhpur; NUALS, Kochi; GNLU, Gandhinagar; HNLU, Raipur; Ram Manohar Lohiya University (RMLNLU), Lucknow; Rajiv Gandhi National University (RGNUL), Punjab; and Chanakya National Law University, Patna. Eight of these universities also admit postgraduate students on the basis of the CLAT-LLM: NLSIU, Nalsar, NLIU, NUJS, HNLU, GNLU, RMLNLU and RGNUL. Around 15,000 students took the CLAT last year, and the Committee is positive that the numbers will be higher this year..2009 also saw the introduction of the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) in India. LSAT is the standardized admission test for law schools in the United States, Canada and Australia. Currently only one university is accepting LSAT scores- the Jindal Global Law School, which opened its doors for the first time in September this year. However, Pearson Vue, the company that administers the LSAT, is confident that the popularity is set to grow in the country.
