Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has sought a report from Registrar General Sanjeev S Kalgoankar on the letter written by Unnao Rape Victim and her family seeking security..According to The Telegraph, the letter did not reach the Chief Justice of India till yesterday afternoon. Communications to the CJI are forwarded by the Registry and it is not sure why the letter dated July 12 took a long time to be forwarded to the CJI, the report states..The CJI has now asked for a detailed note on why the letter took so long to reach him..The letter written in Hindi alleges that the victim and her family were being threatened constantly by the followers of rape accused BJP MLA, Kuldip Singh Sengar..Interestingly, the victim’s mother had filed a Transfer Petition in Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi..The Supreme Court had issued notice to the CBI and accused on April 16, 2019 However, no counter affidavit has been filed by the CBI yet in the matter..Further, while Service of notice was complete upon respondent Nos. 2, 3, 5-8, 10, 12, 13, 15 including the main accused Kuldip Singh Sengar, no one entered appearance on their behalf when the case was last heard in July..Moreover, Notice could not be served to Respondent nos. 4, 9 and 11, 14 as postal remarks showed “not found at home” and “insufficient address” respectively..Hence, the Court had directed the Petitioner’s counsel to file fresh particulars of the above respondents and take steps for service of notice to them within four weeks..The matter has now been adjourned for November 29..The Unnao Rape and the subsequent events have led to huge controversy especially after a lorry without a number plate rammed into the car in which the victim was travelling. The victim and her lawyer have been critically injured while two of her aunts passed away.
