Centre notifies appointment of Justice Vikram Nath as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court

The Central government has notified the appointment of Justice Vikram Nath as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.

The Collegium had recommended the appointment of Justice Vikram Nath as Gujarat High Court Chief Justice on August 22. Earlier this year, the Collegium had proposed that Justice Nath be appointed the first Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

However, as revealed in the Collegium resolution dated August 22, the Centre had returned the file and requested the Collegium to reconsider this proposal. The Collegium had then proposed that Justice Nath be appointed the next Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court instead, a post the Collegium noted has been lying vacant for quite a long time.

Justice Nath obtained his law degree in 1986. Following his enrolment in 1987, he practised in the Allahabad High Court. He was appointed an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2004. He was made a permanent judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2006 where he is currently serving.
