CBI to question Retired Bombay HC Judge after lawyer Daughter arrested for seeking bribe

In a shocking revelation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had yesterday arrested retired Bombay High Court judge S. B. Mhase’s daughter Advocate Madhaveshwari for seeking a bribe of Rs. 30 lakh from the complainant to get him favourable order in a case now before the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. Madhaveshwari was arrested with her two accomplices, who were caught while taking the money. B. Mhase’s questioning is necessary because many times Madhaveshwari and Sunil Shirole, one of the accused in the case who is untraceable have mentioned his name during conversations with the complainant. They had allegedly spoken about how Mhase could make use of his influence to settle the case in the complainant’s favour..The complainant had approached the National Commission after his case was dismissed by the state consumer forum.The complainant was claiming a compensation of Rs. 95 lakh from a builder..The CBI, in their remand application submitted before the Special Judge R.R. Deshmukh claimed that Madhaveshwari, in a recorded conversation, told the complainant that she would manage to get a favourable order from the National Commission through her father’s influence. She allegedly demanded Rs. 30 lakh for it..The CBI after receiving the complaint from Borker had then laid a trap and arrested Somnath Sutar and Hansraj Singh who had come to collect the money. Both Somnath and Hansraj exposed that they had accepted the money on behalf of Madhaveshwari and Shirole..The CBI officials said members of the State and National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission are also likely to be questioned..These revelations by the anti corruption wing of CBI raises doubts over the officials of both State and National Consumer Dispute Redressal Forums and of course brings a bad name to the legal fraternity.
