The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has tendered an unconditional apology to the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court Vineet Saran and Justice CR Dash..The apology came in connection with an incident that took place in September, when the CBI mistakenly tried to raid the house of sitting High Court judge Justice CR Dash. The bureau’s gaffe raised a lot of questions on the way its officials function while discharging their duties..The CBI had, on September 19, tried to raid Justice Dash’s house, mistaking it for the house of former high court judge Justice IM Qudussi, against whom a corruption case (Prasad Education Trust case) had been registered. Upon realizing that that they had arrived at the residence of the wrong person, the officials exited the premises..Last month, the CBI had apprised the Supreme Court of its eagerness to tender an apology to Justice Dash. The Orissa High Court Bar Association had also resolved to file a petition in the High Court seeking a judicial inquiry into the fiasco..During the course of hearing on Monday, the Bench remarked that the CBI officials should have been more diligent while discharging their duties. It also pointed out that the officials should have read the nameplate to ascertain which house they were raiding..Appearing for the CBI, ASG Tushar Mehta submitted that an affidavit in regard to the apology tendered will be filed within a week.
