CBI Deputy Legal Advisor Beena Raizada booked for forging Assessment Notes

Yet another officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been implicated in wrongdoing. This time, the Bureau’s Deputy Legal Advisor Beena Raizada has been charged with forging the Assessment Notes of her Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs)..A complaint to this effect was filed by CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashish Prasad, on the basis of which an FIR was lodged charging Raizada under Sections 417, 511, 468, 471 and 477 of the Indian Penal Code..An enquiry conducted by the CBI was revealed that Raizada had personally submitted three APARs for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 along with Assessment Notes for the same, bearing the signature of VK Singh, the then DIG of the CBI Anti-Corruption Branch at Patna. All the Assessment Notes certified Raizada’s performance as ‘Excellent’..On being questioned, Singh stated that he had not made those signatures on Raizada’s Assessment Notes. He also revealed that Raizada was not on duty for a period of 90 days between 2014 and 2015, and therefore there was no question of writing an Assessment Report in her favour. Further, since he was repatriated in 2015, there was no chance that he could have signed off on a report in 2016..Since the APARs were submitted by Raizada personally, it was prima facie established that she had forged the signature of VK Singh on the Assessment Notes in order to get her APARs processed favourably..Read the FIR:
