The battle over the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for law is not over yet. Far from it. Today, the Supreme Court of India issued notice in a challenge against the Bombay High Court’s decision in the CET matter..Madan B Lokur and RK Agrawal JJ have issued notice, returnable in one week, in a petition filed by one Kedar Warad. The petitioner was represented by Pradnya Talekar and Atul Babasaheb Dakh..Although issuing notice does not necessarily mean that the apex court will interfere in the Bombay High Court’s July 5 decision, there are indications that the court wants to dispose off the matter quickly..The petition in the Supreme Court comes at a time when the admission process to Maharashtra’s law colleges are in a state of complete disarray. Not only have there been numerous delays in the promised schedule, but the Bar Council of India has also stepped into the situation..Two days ago, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra had told Bar & Bench that the Government Law College in Mumbai has been debarred from holding admissions due to insufficient faculty strength. Three other city law colleges face a similar fate..Read today’s order below..You can read the SLP copy below..(Last edited at 13:49 on August 30, 2016)
