The tenure of the 46th Chief Justice of India has started with a bang.
Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi today made it clear that mentioning of matters in the Supreme Court will be on hold till parameters relating to the process are worked out.
Gogoi J, stated that mentioning would only be allowed for urgent matters for the time being.
In the process, he cut short advocate Mathews J Nedumpara, who, while trying to mention a matter, attempted to welcome the new Chief Justice of India.
“All the best as the captain of the ship”, Mathews Nedumpara began to speak.
“Mr. Nedumpara, we don’t need this. You are here to mention? No mentioning till parameters are worked out”, the new CJI made it categorical.
He then proceeded to hear listed matters.
The court room, which was choc-a-bloc, saw many lawyers immediately leaving after CJI Gogoi’s statement.
The newly appointed CJI also made his intentions clear when he refused to pass over a case.
