Bombay HC does U-turn, lifts stay on final CLAT allotment list till tomorrow

The Bombay High Court yesterday lifted the stay on the final CLAT 2015 allotment list. Late last week, the high court had passed an order staying the publication of the fourth and final allotment list due to be published on July 1..The petitioner had earlier raised objections with regard to seven questions in the CLAT paper. Senior Counsel Ravi Kadam, appearing for the respondent (CLAT Convenor), requested the Bench for time to file an affidavit in response to the objections since the matter was coming up for the first time. In addition to this, Kadam pointed to the fact that the Expert Committee had already addressed the objections raised by the petitioner and that three allotment lists had already been published..Further, Kadam submitted the Respondent’s intention to take appropriate steps to club the matters pending in three other high courts – Allahabad, Rajasthan and Kerala..A bench comprising Justices Anoop Mohta and Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi declined to grant the petitioner relief until they hear the CLAT Convenor’s affidavit, which will be filed tomorrow. It was stated,.“However, considering the averments so made and the time so taken to file present petition and the stages so crossed as recorded above and as other students/candidates must have already proceeded further based upon the lists so published, specifically first and second list, we are not inclined to grant any relief so prayed, unless we hear Respondent No.1 after the affidavit/reply, which they are filing by day after tomorrow i.e. 25th June, 2015.”.HT to Rajat Sharma for pointing it out via Facebook.
