Bollywood copyright drama – All The Best in Court

Ajay Devgan’s ‘All The Best‘ has hit a roadblock a week before its release. Om Film’s Karan Ramsay has filed a copyright infringement suit against Ajay Devgan over the film’s script. Thakore Jariwala & Associates has been retained by Ramsay, and Media Lexicon is representing Devgan Films and the other respondents in the matter. The order of the Bombay High Court is expected tomorrow..A week before its release, Devgan Films’ ‘All The Best‘, has found itself in a soup, with Karan Ramsay filing a copyright infringement suit against Ajay Devgan over the film’s script, now pending before the Bombay High Court..Ramsay, who owns the production house, Om Films, claims that the script is similar to his film, ‘Uncle Samjha Karo‘, which is currently under production. He claims that he purchased the rights of the script from scriptwriter, Paritosh Painter. Ramsay alleges that Painter’s attempts to retrieve the copyright in 2007 led to arbitration. The Indian Motion Pictures and Producers Association, presiding over the arbitration, ruled that Ramsay owned the rights to the script..Ramsay alleges that Painter has subsequently sold the script to the Ajay Devgan owned Devgan Films. Devgan claims that the film is based on the 1966 Neil and Caroline Schaffner play, ‘Right Bed Wrong Husband’ and they had acquired the script for $ 40,000 (Rs. 19 Lakh). The matter had come up for admission yesterday before the Bombay High Court. Thakore Jariwala & Associates briefed Senior Counsel Virag Tulzapurkar to argue on behalf of Ramsay. However, the release now revolves around the order of the High Court which is expected tomorrow.
