Better searchability, drop down menus, tags – Finding content on Bar & Bench

Over the last six months, we have made a number of technological changes here at Bar & Bench. From moving away from Drupal to getting a cleaner, crisper design, we have slowly been chipping away at to provide you with the ideal reading experience.

Drop-down menus

One of the reasons why we chose this current theme is because of the fantastic searchability it offers. As you may have noticed, all stories are now classified into different categories, each with its own set of sub-categories.

So for instance, if you want to see all litigation-related news, all you have to is hover around the categories news, and choose “Litigation News” from the dropdown.

The same applies for our columns, interviews, and the apprentice lawyer category. All stories are filed under the parent category (news, columns etc) and a sub-category (Corporate & In-house, law schools etc)

Using the Search Feature

Now if you are looking for something a bit more specific, just click on the search tab you see on the right.

The results page lists all the relevant stories, on infinite scroll for easier access. Be warned though that a fair few of them will require a premium subscription to read.

Using Tags

The search box is great, but it is not enough. What we have also done is build up a database of “tags” that are displayed at the end of each story.

Identifying the Tags
Identifying the Tags

Clicking on these tags will then display all published stories bearing that tag.

For instance, for news related to:

  1. The Supreme Court, the tag is Supreme Court of India
  2. AZB & Partners, the tag is, well AZB & Partners
  3. The Delhi High Court, it is Delhi High Court
  4. People Moves, new hires etc at law firms, it is People Moves

This is particularly relevant for our Deal Street section, where we have broken down the deals as per deal size. Currently, deals are being reported under three tags namely

The 10 most popular tags on our site right now are:

This is a constant work in progress and we are looking to further refine these stories for a far easier reading experience.

As always, we look forward to your feedback either in the comments section below or via info@barandbench.com
