BCCI: CoA to demit office once elected office bearers assume office, Supreme Court

The Supreme Court today directed that Committee of Administrators (CoA) shall demit office upon elected office bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) assuming office..The order was passed by a Bench of Justices SA Bobde and L Nageswara Rao. .In the recently held elections, former Indian Cricket Captain Saurav Ganguly was elected the President of the BCCI. It is also reported that the next secretary is likely to be Jay Shah, son of Union home minister Amit Shah. Arun Dhumal, the younger brother of MoS Finance and former BCCI president Anurag Thakur, is likely to be the next treasurer of the Board..The Supreme Court also ordered that no proceedings shall be initiated without the leave of the court against CoA or any officer who had carried out directions of CoA..Further, the Court has directed the BCCI to bear the expenses incurred by CoA and electoral officers including expenses for legal representation. The proposal for the remuneration of the Committee of Administrators handed over to the Court in a sealed cover was approved by the court..The Court also directed that the Registrar under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 shall take on record the audited Accounts of BCCI for the financial years 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 as confirmed and approved by the Committee of Administrators..Earlier, it was also reported that the CoA head, Vinod Rai had said the administrative body will relinquish office following the BCCI elections..The four-member CoA was appointed on the Supreme Court’s order in 2017, in order to run the affairs of the BCCI and implement court-approved recommendations of the Justice RM Lodha panel on reforms in the cricket body. The administrative body is headed by headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod Rai.
