The Madras High Court today restrained the police from arresting AR Muragadoss, director of the Vijay-starrer Tamil movie Sarkar until November 27..Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan issued direction on an anticipatory bail plea moved by Muragadoss today. On a mention being made of the same this morning, the Court had agreed to hear the matter in the afternoon..Muragadoss had moved the plea apprehending arrest on charges of sedition and causing public mischief after members of the ruling AIADMK party objected to scenes allegedly portraying former CM Jayalalithaa and the ruling government in a bad light..During the brief arguments made today, the Court was told that the movie’s attack on freebie policies specifically targetted the AIADMK. It appears that one of the objectionable scenes criticised was the giving away of free mixies and grinders, reminiscent of a scheme initiated by former CM Jayalalithaa in 2011..“[So] if there’s TV also, will you be satisfied?” The judge wondered out loud, referring to a DMK scheme for the provision of free colour TVs some years before..As he heard the case, the judge also observed that the movie was cleared by the censor board already. He queried,.“What is the rule [violated]? What is the violation? It is a cinema...”.Ultimately he confined to ordering that the police should refrain from arresting Muragadoss until November 27, when the case will presumably be taken up next..Read the Petition:
