Seventh Edition of the NLIU-Justice RK Tankha Memorial International Arbitration Moot, 2022 [Press Release]

The Moot Court Association of National Law Institute University, Bhopal successfully conducted the 7^th Edition of the NLIU - Justice R.K. Tankha Memorial International Arbitration Moot, 2022 from 10 – 13 March, 2022.

The Competition was organized by NLIU in collaboration with the Office of Mr. Vivek Tankha, Senior Advocate and Member of Parliament, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), L&L Partners Law Offices and Allen & Gledhill LLP along with other leading National and International Institutions.

The Competition saw participation from 36 premier law schools from across the globe, including the University of Oxford, NUS Singapore among others.

The Final Round of the Moot took place on Sunday, 13^th March, 2022 and was judged by an illustrious panel comprising of Prof. (Dr) Stefan Kroll (Professor, Bucerius Law School, Hamburg; Director, Centre for International Dispute Resolution, Hamburg; President, German Arbitration Institute; & Director, Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Vienna), Prof. Loukas Mistelis (Professor, Queen Mary University of London; Director, QMUL-UNIDROIT Institute of Transnational Commercial; & Chair of the Executive Board, European Federation for Investment Law and Arbitration) and Mr. Davinder Singh (Senior Counsel & Chairman, Singapore International Arbitration Centre).

The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by Mr. Vivek Tankha, Mr. Davinder Singh, Prof. (Dr) Stefan Kroll, Prof. Loukas Mistelis, Mr. Rajiv Luthra (Founder & Managing Partner, L&L Partners Law Offices), Prof. (Dr) V. Vijayakumar (Vice Chancellor, NLIU, Bhopal), Mr. Kevin Nash (Registrar, SIAC) and Mr. Prashant Mishra (Partner, L&L Partners Law Offices).

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE VALEDICTORY CEREMONY

The valedictory ceremony began with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Yadav, Faculty-In-Charge NLIU Moot Court Association. All the dignitaries, faculty members, participants and students were welcomed by him.

Mr. Vivek Tankha, Senior Advocate and Member of Parliament began by congratulating the Moot Court Association on raising the level of the competition. He then motivated the participants by saying “Gainer of today is the winner of tomorrow”. Further, he expressed how students should grab every opportunity on their way as according to him, “Opportunity to speak is opportunity to Learn.”

Prof (Dr) Stefan Kroll, Professor (Bucerius Law School, Hamburg) congratulated the MCA for wonderful organization of the moot and acknowledged the high standard of participation that the moot witnessed. He praised the drafters for preparing a comprehensive Case Record that contained several contemporary topics of arbitration which widened the knowledge of participants. He also expressed his desire to be invited to India for judging the rounds and not in the virtual setting.

Prof. Loukas Mistelis Professor, Queen Mary University of London also congratulated the MCA and the Case Record Drafting Committee for excellent results. He mentioned about the fast-paced growth of arbitration in India and about how the students have developed the subskills required for participating in arbitrations while being in their formative years.

Mr. Davinder Singh, Director (Singapore International Arbitration Centre) expressed how SIAC has a matter of mission to hold up for young Indians so that they have a chance to excel in the International Arbitration.

Mr. Rajiv Luthra, Founder & Managing Partner (L&L Partners Law Offices) began by appreciating the efforts of Mr. Vivek Tankha and the NLIU Moot Court Association. He praised the quality of participation. He stated that excellence could only be achieved through failure. He ended his speech by greeting all the participants of the competition.

Prof. V Vijaykumar,Vice Chancellor (National Law Institute University, Bhopal) while addressing the gathering acknowledged the continuing support given by Mr. Vivek Tankha in the organisation of this moot and welcomed Arbitration as a mode of dispute resolution.

The Valedictory Ceremony concluded with the closing remarks by the Convenor of the Moot Court Association, Mr. Sahil Sonkusale. He thanked all the dignitaries, participants, members and volunteers of the Moot Court Association for their constant support throughout the competition. He also thanked all the partners for collaborating to host such a wonderful competition. The awards were declared by the Co-Convenor, Ms. Devanshi Prasad.
