Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Rahul Kumar, a third-year student at Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interests before deciding to pursue law school?

I had decided to pursue my law degree soon after my matriculation but I was not completely sure about it because Physics has always fascinated me so I decided to pursue my Higher Secondary education in science stream.

Later on, I lost my interest in one of the subjects and then made up my mind to pursue my career in Law. I kept on with my research regarding the career opportunities in law field. I also kept on comparing them with other available options like engineering, a BA (Hons.) etc.

Later on, I stayed with my earlier decision of pursuing a law degree and got myself enrolled in a law school.

Why did you choose to become a Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

I choose be the CA with Bar & Bench because this platform is one of the most renowned and most visited platform in the legal globe. I was sure that engaging here will give me a lot of opportunities to work closely with the platform, the people as well as various fellow mates from friend Colleges and universities.

The platform would give an amicable environment to share our thoughts, learn the recent happenings and keep ourselves updated.

It also gives us a pinch of what legal journalism is and the most importantly it gives an exposure and an opportunity to associate with this platform regarding various events and programs happening at our college/University.

What are your plans after graduation?

Soon after my graduation, I plan to crack the Judicial Clerkship examination and want to pursue Judicial clerkship at the apex court under an Hon’ble Judge. The reason behind this plan is to work and understand the working of a Judge more closely and learn the most out of this one-year opportunity.

The diverse work experience one can have while working with the Judge of the apex court will prove beneficial for me in the long run and then, probably, I can decide for my specialization subject.

Later on after getting a specialization, I wish to litigate, keeping myself attached to the academia.
