The Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, Law College Dehradun is organizing an Online Certificate Course on Mediation in collaboration with Association for International Dispute Resolution (AIDR) from July 3 to July 9, 2021.

Mr. Thomas Valenti will be the course instructor. Mr. Valenti is a Chicago based conflict resolution specialist offering mediation, arbitration and facilitation services and training globally. He works with the Association for International Dispute Resolution (AIDR), a charitable organisation created to develop an understanding of the benefits of mediation amongst law students and delivering mediation training for students.

About the organizer

Law College Dehradun, as a flagship institution of Uttaranchal University under the aegis of Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies and Research, was established in the year 2002, as the first independent Law College of Uttarakhand.

About the Certificate Course

“Mediation is one of the most effective tools of non- violence. It can turn parties away from conflict, towards compromise.” The Certificate Course on Mediation is designed for the capacity building of law students across the country. This course is aimed to enable the participants to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the relevant Mediation techniques which come to be of use in competitions and practice alike ramifying into the achievement of an amicable settlement.

It will help the participants to objectively analyze the circumstances of a dispute as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the case and to empower them to make pragmatic and viable settlement decisions. This course is not only about learning Mediation, but it’s also about developing strong vocational skills in an environment convivial and hostile with no distinction and encouraging the review approach of participants to problem-solving, negotiation, listening, and scrutinizing their moves in new and exciting ways.

About AIDR

The Association for International Dispute Resolution (AIDR) is an initiative started by the AIDR Professionals Foundation, a non-profit company registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, India. AIDR’s primary objective is to provide opportunities to students and professionals to train and increase their awareness in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.

Registration

1. Interested students shall register by filling the registration form available at: https://forms.gle/ry27s63Scp5Xanhc9.

2. The registrants will be shortlisted to a total number of One Hundred participants.

3. The basis of this process shall be the registrants’ merits of experience with Mediation/Negotiation and their answers to the questions asked in the registration form.

4. Only those One Hundred shortlisted participants shall receive an email of confirmation from the organizers.

Mode of Delivery

The course will be delivered through an online platform i.e., Microsoft Team and each and every participant is required to download the application for the smooth functioning of the session.

Eligibility Criteria

The Course is open to all students, enrolled bonafide on a regular basis in an Undergraduate LL.B. Degree Course or its equivalent conducted by any recognized

institute. A Certificate of Completion shall be provided to all the participants subject to the performance in the assignment, the end of the course.
