The results of the 4th edition of the NUALS Maritime Moot Competition conducted from 14th to 16th July, 2017 have been declared.

The team from ILS, Pune – Apurva Shelka, Sahil Likhtar and Anshritha Rai, were declared the winners of the competition. Christ University, School of Law, comprising team members Niranjan Bhat, Kunal Naik and Adit Shah were adjudged the runners up.

The Best Speaker award (Finals) was bagged by Sahil Likhar, ILS Pune. Shashank Kanoongoo from Symbiosis School of Law, Pune was declared as the Best Speaker for the Preliminary round.

Symbiosis, Pune has also been awarded the Best Memorial Award as well as the Spirit of NUALS award.

The Annual competition distinguishes itself in offering exposure to law students in the developing national and international frontiers of Martime Law, a field still considered to be a highly specialized, niche area of practice. The University has the distinction of being the first law school to organize National Martime moots in the country.

This year, the competition saw participation from 21 law schools across the country.  The competition also featured a special interactive lecture on international maritime trade law delivered by Ashwin Shankar, from the Chambers of George A. Rebello, Mumbai. Ashwin Shankar is a maritime expert with several years of practice in the field.

The judging panel for the Finals included Justice PB Suresh Kumar, High Court of Kerala; VM Syam Kumar, advocate, High Court of Kerala, and Thushara James, advocate, High Court of Kerala. The moot proposition was also drafted by Panelist, VM Syam Kumar. It has been noted that the proposition this year placed greater focus on the practical aspects. This is in contrast to the moot problems in earlier editions, which were more concerned with the fundamental precepts of maritime law.
