Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University Visakhapatnam (DSNLU) emerged runners-up in the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot 2023 conducted by the INSOL International and the International Insolvency Institute.
The team from DSNLU was amongst the 16 highest ranked teams to qualify to the oral rounds, and have finished off as runners-up in the world rounds of the Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Moot, 2023, which were held from 18 February 2023 to 26 February 2023.
The team comprising of Aditi Singh, Sanchari Sengupta, Vidisha Verma and Sanskriti, all third year students.
The team competed against the students from University College London in the finals.
Additionally, the team also won the award for ‘Highest Ranked Team after the Preliminary Rounds’ and Aditi Singh was adjudged as the ‘Best Individual Mooter in Preliminary Rounds’.
The competition invites teams from universities across the world, to make written submissions, and present oral arguments subsequent to their qualification. Only the top 16 teams, based on their written submissions, advance further to compete in the oral rounds.
The 2023 edition of the moot attracted teams from over 8 jurisdictions across the world, and were met by 42 judges from 16 countries. The problem revolved around the tussle between Gibbs Rule and Modified Universalism, for Common Law nations. The effects of recognition under UNCITRAL Model Law were put to test through contradicting judicial precedents.
The grand finals judges were Justice Elsbeth de Vos (Amsterdam District Court, The Netherlands), Justice Anthony Zacaroli (High Court of Justice, England & Wales) and Judge Cecelia Morris (US Bankruptcy Court, SDNY).
