Justice Tianliangthang Vaiphei, Chancellor of the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam and Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court launched two new journals of the University on Saturday..The NLUA Law & Policy Review and the NLUA Law Review run by the faculty and the students respectively, have several scholars and even Supreme Court judges on their Advisory Boards. Among the names are sitting apex court judges Madan Lokur and Jasti Chelameswar JJ., Professors John Phillips and Stephen Gilmore from King’s College, London and Prof Robert Lee from the University of Birmingham..The journals contain articles on varied fields of law. Some of the titles include The Land Acquisition Act 2013 and the Proposed Bill – An Insight by Topi Basar; Causes of Divorce in India: An Analysis and Shared Parental Responsibility – Need of the Hour by Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijender Kumar; and book reviews by Dr Vijay Pratap Tiwari (Pleadings, Drafting and Conveyancing) and Dr Ishrat Hussain (Equity, Mortgages, Trusts and Fiduciary Relations)..NLU Assam seems to be keen on growing its academic culture. In October, the University had signed an MoU with NLSIU Bangalore for research on Child Rights.
