Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Shrvan Lahoti, a third year student at the Himachal Pradesh National Law University.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interests before deciding to pursue law school?

"The purpose of life is a life of purpose” - Robert Byrne.

A purpose driven person is one that listens to that small voice within them that hungers for growth. It’s that deep desire to make a difference, and impact the lives of people in our society. The legal profession is a service to the society, the main aim of which is to protect citizens from social diseases.

A lawyer plays an important indirect role in regard to social change by shaping a direct impact on society. Law and public policy is a dynamic, interdisciplinary area of study that has broad appeal to scholars, policymakers, and stakeholders.

I had done my schooling from a missionary school. Being brought up in such a different environment, I had exposure to diverse cultures since childhood. I have hobby to watch parliamentary debates and to participate in debates and all such activities since my school days.

Why did you choose to become a Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

After getting admitted in Himachal Pradesh National Law University, my passion to contribute to the society became even stronger. I am a community minded person who want to make constructive change in the world.

As an ambassador I want to help the university students where like-minded individuals come together and share their thoughts and ideas. Bar and bench critically analyze and discuss every executive order, judicial decisions and international know-how. This helps me fulfilling my purpose of bringing the student community together through Bar & Bench.

I Joined as a student campus ambassador so that I can bring positive energy among my fellow mates and can motivate them to take new roles and responsibility which will further strengthen this educational institution.

What are your plans after graduation?

I have plan to do Masters and meanwhile also preparing for different competitive exams.
