Over the last three years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students provide us with information on campus events and activities, as well as share legal articles.
This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.
In this edition, we speak with Ayush Kumar, a third-year law student at the Chanakya National Law University, Patna.
(Edited excerpts)
Why did you choose to study law?
When I completed my 10th Standard in the year 2016, I decided to keep science stream. I choose science because I wished to appear for the NDA examination and join the Indian Air Force.
Initially, there were no plans to study Law. But, after meeting one of my father’s friends, a senior advocate and an arbitrator, I was made aware of the CLAT examination, which is when my journey started.
I researched about the CLAT examination; pattern/ question paper difficulty. After evaluating all these, I decided to write CLAT and cleared the examination in 2019 and took admission in CNLU, Patna. However, what actually fascinated me to pursue Law was the money an established lawyer (arbitrator) earns and secondly, the social service I would be able to do by fighting cases pro-bono.
What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?
Bar & Bench is the best online source for legal news in India. Bar & Bench's legal content and live court updates have been beneficial, not just to law students, but also to legal practitioners. I have been following the portal since my CLAT Preparation days in 2018. Through this opportunity, I seek to actively contribute to the evolution of legal journalism and to the circulation of relevant legal news.
What are your plans after completing law?
After pursuing law, I want to practice in the field of arbitration and subsequently be an arbitrator.
