Over the last three years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students provide us with information on campus events and activities, as well as share legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Abhinav Kathuria, a third-year law student at the Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law?

I have always been intrigued by how the subject of law permeates many aspects of life and how someone with legal expertise is a valuable addition to society. Because of my involvement in research and public speaking activities, I began to consider law as a feasible career option, and I decided to study law for the law.

I became interested in practicing law early in my life because I have a natural desire to defend people's rights which was instilled in me from the disciples from my family & school both of which were high in standards and focused & determined on morals.

My childhood exposure which includes my father being an advocate, speaking and standing upright for the rights of the people, I believe played a significant part in my decision to study law.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

The Campus Ambassador programme is unique in that it not only recognizes but also motivates aspiring lawyers by providing them with the opportunity to lead and represent the college. It also provides visibility and an opportunity to be a part of this platform with regard to numerous legal activities, events and initiatives taking place at our college/university. To summarise, each day entails a continual learning process, and it is an honour to be a part of this programme.

What are your plans after completing law?

Currently my plan is to take up a job in a law firm and at a later point of time pursue a Masters programme, but since law provides diverse options, I prefer to explore possibilities and not restrict to something specific.
