Yahoo Inc has been given a reprieve by a district court in Delhi, barely a month after its Indian subsidiary was awarded similar relief. The internet giant had its name deleted from list of defendants in a civil suit filed by one Ajias Arshad Qasmi, former spokesperson of Darul Ul Uloom..In the civil suit, Qasmi had impleaded 22 parties as Defendants including Yahoo India and Yahoo Inc. However, the US-based company filed an application for deletion of its name, an application which was not objected to by Qasmi..The Times of India reports that the US-based company had filed an application for removing its name from the list of accused. The application stated that since there was no case made out against the company and furthermore, its Indian subsidiary had also been discharged by the court earlier for similar reasons..This is the third bit of good news for the company. On March 2, 2011, the Delhi High Court had quashed the summons issued to Yahoo in connection with a criminal complaint filed against it. On March 5, 2012 the District Court had allowed Yahoo India’s plea to be dropped from the list of Defendants and has even imposed costs of Rs. 5,000 on the Plaintiff for failing to show any cause of action..In the meantime, the district court has asked Qasmi’s counsel to give a clarification regarding duplication of names of the accused websites. The judge has also asked Qasmi to remove all improper parties from his plaint so that the case can proceed against proper parties..The matter is now listed on April 10 for further hearing.
