Despite a surprise downpour, members of the legal fraternity congregated at Vahura Lawyers’ Night (VLN) to celebrate the profession. The event, held at Bangalore Brew Works on Thursday, July 13, saw participation from 150 professionals including litigators, corporate lawyers and even ‘lawyers not lawyering.’

Organised by Vahura, the premier legal talent search and strategy consulting firm in India, VLN is an annual multi-city gathering meant to creatively catalyse the advancement of the legal profession, and provide an opportunity to discuss the shaping of a new generation of lawyers. Thursday’s event in Bengaluru marked a happy return of VLN, which had to go on enforced hiatus during the pandemic. The long break made the reunions and camaraderie all the more anticipated.

From around 8 pm, the venue buzzed with an eclectic mix of stimulating conversations, energetic music, and food and drinks. There was a fun quiz, some shop talk and hearty banter as attendees got up to speed with peers, some of whom they hadn’t seen in ages.

Attendees included representatives from Increasing Diversity Increasing Access (IDIA), an initiative that identifies underprivileged students with an aptitude for law and trains them for law school entrance exams. Vahura is the official mentorship partner of IDIA.

“I had a fantastic time at VLN 2023,” said Yajas Setlur, Partner at law firm JSA. “It was a great way to reconnect with clients, peers, and old friends. I would definitely recommend this event to my friends and colleagues as a unique way of keeping in touch with Bengaluru’s legal community.” His sentiment was echoed by Abraham Mathew Kandathil, Senior Legal Counsel at ShareChat: “VLN 2023 provided a fantastic opportunity for us to reconnect with old colleagues and make new acquaintances. It was an inspiring evening filled with meaningful conversations.”

The success of VLN Bengaluru has heightened expectations for the forthcoming events in Delhi and Mumbai. The VLN organizing team at Vahura confirmed that it has already received several enquiries in the wake of the Bengaluru event. While the date for the Mumbai event remains to be firmed up, we know that the Delhi event will take place on the evening of August 24. Registrations for the Delhi event are now open, with Vahura extending an early bird offer like they did for the Bengaluru edition.
