As reported yesterday, Uberoi has resigned from AZB & Partners and was slated to joined Trilegal as a Partner and head of its competition law practice.

Trilegal has sent out the official release, which states,

“Nisha is one of the most highly rated competition lawyers in the country. She has a strong reputation as one of the few true experts in the field in the country. She has deep domestic and international experience in both merger control and cartel work.”

Sridhar Gorthi, one of Trilegal’s senior partners and a member of the Board, commented,

Building a strong competition law practice is a strategic priority for the firm. Nisha has a stellar reputation and we are thrilled to have her on board.  Nisha will be based in Mumbai, but will have team members in all major offices of the firm to lead a national practice.”

Rahul Matthan, member of the Management Committee, added,

We have been looking to strategically buttress specific practice areas and recently acquired a significant capital markets practice. The inclusion of this high-quality competition team further enhances our ability to deliver our clients a full-service offering”.

Commenting on her decision, Uberoi said,

“I am delighted to join Trilegal with my team. It is a great platform and we look forward to building the competition practice. I have enjoyed working with Zia and would like to thank her for being such a wonderful mentor.”

Uberoi’s team of 5 women lawyers will also be moving along with her. Soumya Hariharan would be joining as Counsel, while Nandita Sahai is joining as Senior Associate. Atreyee Sarkar, Shravani Shekhar and Ankita Gulati will join as Associates.

Uberoi will be the first woman partner in Mumbai office and the fourth at the firm. Other women partners include Charandeep Kaur, Kosturi Ghosh and Upasna Rao.

On her decision to leave, Zia Mody commented,

“..Her (Nisha) moving on so quickly is unfortunate….However, Ajay, Bahram and I wish Nisha all the very very best. She is an excellent lawyer with great work ethic. I look forward to watching her grow.”
