The Central government has told the Supreme Court that telecom companies owe Rs. 92,641 crore in license fees to the government.
According to a chart submitted by the Central government to the Supreme Court, license fee is outstanding from 16 telecom companies.
The Bharti Airtel group of companies leads the pack with Rs. 21, 682 crore.
Vodafone is not far behind. Its outstanding dues towards the government is Rs. 19, 823 crore.
Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communication has to pay the Centre Rs. 16, 456 crore.
Tata group owes Rs. 9,987 crores, while Idea Cellular/Vodafone Idea owes Rs. 8,485 crore in outstanding dues.
The list contains the sixteen telecom companies with the highest revenue in the telecom sector. The dues include the interest and penalty that the companies owe the government for delay of payment, as stipulated under the licence conditions.
