Shamnad Basheer awarded Infosys Science Foundation Prize 2014

Prof. Shamnad Basheer has been awarded the Infosys Science Foundation Prize, 2014 for his contribution to the field of research in humanities. Basheer, the Founder and Managing Trustee of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) and Founder of SpicyIP India, was recognized for his work on the analysis of a range of legal issues, including pharmaceutical patent injunctions and enforcement.

The winners of the Infosys Prize 2014 were evaluated by a panel of jurors comprising esteemed scientists and professors from around the world. The jury chair for the Humanities field was Prof. Amartya Sen. Past recipients of the award include Prof. Raghuram Rajan and Dr. Pratap Bhanu Mehta.

The award ceremony will be held on 5th January 2015, in Kolkata, where the President of India Pranab Mukherjee will felicitate the winners. The prize consists of a purse of Rs. 55 Lakhs, a 22 karat gold medallion and a citation certificate for each category.
