A court in West Bengal has framed charges against Sanjay Roy, the man accused of raping and murdering a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
According to Mint, a court in Sealdah court framed charges against Roy for the offence of murder under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, rape under Section 64 and also for the offence of causing death or resulting in persistent vegetative state of victim under Section 66.
The trial in the case will begin on November 11.
The victim, a junior doctor, was found dead at a seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical Hospital on August 9. The incident had led to nationwide outrage and protests.
The matter is being probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). after the Calcutta High Court transferred the probe to the central agency.
The Supreme Court had also taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and established a National Task Force (NTF) to address issues related to the safety and dignity of doctors and medical professionals.
Previously, the CBI court obtained permission to conduct narcoanalysis tests on the former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and other alleged suspects. However, Roy was identified as sole accused in the chargesheet.
