A Chennai based lawyer has filed a petition before the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin to adhere to a “formal dress code” while attending public events and discharging his official duties.

The petition filed by lawyer M Sathya Kumar has claimed that by wearing “casual attire” such as “T Shirt and Jeans and casual footwear” at official events, Udhayanidhi has been violating the State’s own Government Order issued in 2019 that prescribes a formal dress code for all public servants.

Kumar has also said in his petition that the T-shirts Udhayanidhi wears, “often carried the symbol” of DMK.

This is despite the fact that public servants are prohibited from displaying symbols of any particular political party in government meetings.

The petition is yet to be taken up for hearing by the Court.
