A civil suit has been filed before the Ajmer District Court claiming that Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan was built over a Shiva temple and hence, it should be declared as Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Virajman temple.

The suit has called for removing the unauthorized and illegal occupation of the premises by the Dargah committee.

The suit filed by Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta, through advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh, is likely to be heard on October 10.

The plea has also sought directions to the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a survey of the Dargah.

The Ajmer Dargah is the tomb of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

The suit by Gupta asserts that the roof design at the main entrance gate resembles that of a Hindu structure, indicating that the site was originally a temple.

"The materials and the style of these chatrees plaintly betray their Hindu origin. Their excellent surgace carving is unfortunately hidden from view of coats of colour and whitewashing, which can showcases its true identity and reality after its removal."

It has further argued that there is no record indicating that the Ajmer Dargah was constructed on vacant land. Instead, historical accounts suggest the existence of a Mahadeva temple and Jain temples at the site, where Hindu devotees were worshipping their deities.

Therefore, the suit has sought directions to the Union government to reconstruct the Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Temple at the site of the disputed property.
