The Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested a Chhattisgarh lawyer who allegedly made a phone call to the Bandra Police Station and issued a death threat against actor Shah Rukh Khan.
The lawyer, Faizan Khan, allegedly made the threat call on November 5 and also demanded a ransom of ₹50 lakh from the actor.
The call was received by constable Santosh Ghodke. According to him, the caller said,
"Shah Rukh Khan, the one at Mannat, Bandstand, if he doesn't give me 50 lakh rupees, I will kill him."
Upon being asked about his identity and address, he said:
"It doesn't matter, if you want you can write my name as Hindustani."
A first information report (FIR) was lodged on the same day at the Bandra Police Station for offences under Section 308 (extortion) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (IPC).
Subsequently, on November 7, Mumbai police visited Raipur for its investigation and summoned Faizan Khan. However, Khan claimed that his phone had been stolen on November 2 and that the threat call had been made by some unknown person.
Faizan was arrested on Tuesday from Pandri area in Raipur for failing to appear before the Mumbai Police.
The case is reportedly being associated with the series of threats being issued allegedly by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
