A first information report (FIR) has been registered by Mangaluru police on a complaint by a law intern alleging sexual harassment by a public prosecutor in Karnataka.

Senior Counsel Indira Jaising put out a tweet in this regard stating that the accused has not been arrested yet and "seems to be absconding".

Udayavani reported that the accused, KSN Rajesh is a special public prosecutor of Lokayukta division.

He had coaxed the girl to have sex with him on many occasions since she joined his office on August 8 and eventually on September 25, he called her into his office and tried to sexually exploit her.

Two police officials have been suspended in connection with the complaint for dereliction of duty, the report said.

The Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) has meanwhile suspended license of Rajesh with immediate effect.

A resolution to that effect was passed unanimously on October 22 and proceedings have been initiated for professional misconduct under Section 35 of the Advocates Act.

"We have asked for his response and are expecting to receive it soon. Thereafter, we will conduct an enquiry," N Shivakumar member of KSBC, told Bar & Bench.
