The Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed an anticipatory bail plea filed by suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna in connection with a fourth case sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation registered against him.
Even as Advocate G Arun, appearing for Revanna, expressed a wish to withdraw the anticipatory bail plea on the ground that the chargesheet in the case had been filed, Justice M Nagaprasanna asked how a plea could be withdrawn on the day that it was scheduled for pronouncing of orders.
The Court further said it was dismissing Revanna's anticipatory bail plea and that it had not relied on the chargesheet at all.
"You can rest assured not a word from the chargesheet I have relied on. Only on the complaint. The application has been dismissed only on the basis of the complaint and Supreme Court's judgments," The High Court said while dismissing Revanna's plea.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police probing cases of sexual assault and harassment against Revanna had registered the present case in June this year. This is the fourth such case of sexual assault and harassment against him.
The FIR in the present case was registered against Revanna under Sections 367(2), 354(A), 354(D), 354(B), 506 of the IPC, and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act.
On October 21 this year, the Karnataka High Court had dismissed one bail application and two anticipatory bail applications filed by Revanna seeking relief in three out of the four cases of rape, sexual assault and criminal intimidation registered against him.
On November 11 this year, the Supreme Court too had refused to grant Revanna bail after he challenged the Karnataka High Court’s order denying him bail.
