Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan walked out of Mumbai's Arthur Road jail on Saturday morning, after he secured bail in the cruise ship drug case from Bombay High Court.

Khan had been granted bail by Bombay High Court on Thursday evening but the bail conditions were pronounced by single-judge Justice Nitin Sambre only on Friday evening.

The conditions included personal bond of ₹1 lakh and one surety of the like amount.

Khan's lawyers had then rushed to the Sessions Court to clear the bail formalities. Bollywood actor Juhi Chawla stood as surety for Khan.

The Sessions court had cleared the surety and other formalities on Friday but the bail papers could not be submitted before the jail authorities before the 5.30 pm deadline thus delaying Khan's release by another day.

Release of Aryan Khan

Khan was taken into custody by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 2, 2021 after a cruise ship en route to Goa from Mumbai was raided. He was placed under arrest on October 3 and charged with offences under Section 8(c), 20(b), 27, 28, 29 and 35 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

He was remanded to NCB custody till October 4, which was extended till October 7. Subsequently, he was remanded to judicial custody, after which he immediately moved for bail.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate RM Nerlikar had rejected the bail application, holding that it was not maintainable as only the special court of sessions was entitled to hear the bail plea.

Subsequently, Khan moved the special court seeking bail, which came to be rejected on October 20. This prompted the appeal before the High Court.
