As the rehabilitation and rebuilding process begins after the Kerala floods wreaked havoc in the state, the High Courts of Allahabad, Gujarat and Patna have decided to contribute towards the relief fund.
Judges of the Allahabad High Court, in line with the initiative taken by Chief Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale, will contribute one day’s salary towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, Kerala (CMDRF). Judges of the district judiciary as well as staff members of the High Court the subordinate judiciary will also do the same.
“A gigantic effort is required to be made on the part of countrymen for rehabilitation of the displaced people, involving reconstruction and repair of infrastructure, lost by the flood. As members of the judiciary, we share the pain and agony of the people of Kerala”, reads the press statement issued by the Allahabad High Court.
Chief Justice Bhosale has also appealed to the Bar Association to make contributions towards this cause.
Also joining the cause is the Chief Justice of Patna High Court Mukesh R Shah, along with puisne Judges of the Patna High Court, who have decided to voluntarily contribute Rs 10,000 each towards the CMDRF in these testing times.
At the Gujarat High Court, both sitting and former judges, along with court officers and staff members, have joined hands to organize a fund collection drive, reports TOI. The collection made in this fundraiser will also be donated towards the CMRDF.
Members of the legal fraternity across the nation have come together to contribute towards relief for the Kerala floods in these past few days.
Judges of the Supreme Court make sizeable donations towards the relief fund. The Supreme Court staff also joined them in contributing one day’s salary towards the cause.
Earlier, contributions were also made by judges of the Delhi High Court, and members of the judiciary and staff members of the Tripura High Court.
The Supreme Court Bar Association also contributed Rs. 30 lakh towards relief fund, while some members of the SCBA organized two rounds of collection drives to gather materials to aid the victims of the Kerala floods.
