A committee of two Supreme Court Judges for ensuring speedy disposal of rape cases across the country has been set up by the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde. The Committee consists of Justices R Subhash Reddy and MR Shah.

According to a PTI Report, CJI Bobde constituted this panel in the exercise of his administrative powers for the purpose of monitoring of the cases to ensure their speedy disposal in a time-bound manner. This committee will monitor the case through the High Courts.

The move comes right after the brutal rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor of Hyderabad, that has shaken the country. Noting a rise in the instances of rape and the need for a speedy trial and disposal of such cases, this move by the Chief Justice of India assumes significance.
