Shipra Dhankar, an alumnus of the Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) has topped the Delhi Judicial Services (DJS) Exam 2018. The results of the exam were announced yesterday.
The DJS Exam is considered to be one of the most competitive judicial services exams in the country. Dhankar, a 2016 graduate of JGLS, has topped the 2018 edition of the exams with an aggregate score of 608 out of a possible 1000 marks.
Speaking to Bar & Bench, Dhankar said she always knew that she wanted to pursue judicial services.
“I didn’t apply for a job anywhere else because I knew that I wanted to prepare for judicial services. I always had that clarity in my mind, that this is what I want to do.“
Before she finally emerged the top rank holder in the latest DJS results, Dhankar put in three years of preparation. For two years after her graduation, no notification was issued for judicial service vacancies in any state, she recalled, until Delhi issued its notification.
For her first attempt, Dhankar cleared the written examination, but was unable to get through the interview round. However, she stayed on course and finally cleared all levels of the DJS exam last held in February this year. Commending the same kind of perseverance to future judicial service aspirants, Dhankar says,
“Consistency is key. There are times that you may feel that it might not work out. You need to have faith. There is no shortcut to success, you will need to work hard.
Also, patience. You will have to be really patient. It is not very difficult to lose patience when there are no notifications, no vacancies coming out.“
This is the second year in a row that JGLS has seen its alumni emerge a rank holder in the DJS Exam. Last year, Dev Chaudhary, a first batch graduate of JGLS was ranked second in in the 2017 edition of the DJS Exam.
The Delhi Judicial Services Examination has three successive stages of examinations, with all forms of evaluation: objective, subjective and interview.
675 out of a total of 12,415 candidates qualified for the final round of the 2018 DJS Exam. Among the others who cleared the latest edition of the exam are Bhanu Pratap Singh, an NLU Delhi graduate, Kirandeep Kaur, a graduate of RGNUL and Neha Sharma, a graduate of NLU Delhi.
The finals for the exam was held in February this year. It comprised four papers – General Knowledge, Criminal Law, Civil Law-I and Civil Law-II.
