Eminent lawyer AG Noorani passes away

Noorani was respected for his knowledge in Constitutional law. He was an expert on issues relating to Kashmir and Article 370 and also authored books on the same.

Eminent scholar, lawyer and a political commentator, Abdul Ghafoor Majeed Noorani passed away on Thursday in Mumbai. He was aged 93.

Noorani was a prominent figure in Indian legal and political circles, having worked as an advocate, both at the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court.

Born in 1930, Noorani was respected for his knowledge in Constitutional law. He was an expert on issues relating to Kashmir and Article 370 and also authored books on the same.

His notable works include The Kashmir Question, The Presidential System, The Trial of Bhagat Singh, Constitutional Questions in India, the RSS and the BJP: A Division of Labour, and Article 370: A Constitutional History of Jammu and Kashmir, are some of his writings.

He also wrote biographies of important personalities like as Badruddin Tyabji and Dr Zakir Husain.
