Delhi High Court Women's Lawyer Forum to address mental health in legal profession with 'Art of Happiness' Coffee Chat

Bar & Bench

In its fourth edition of its Coffee Chat, the Delhi High Court Women’s Lawyer Forum (DHCWLF) will be discussing the mental health challenges faced by legal professionals.

The event, scheduled for February 9, 2024, at 4.30 PM in Bar Room 18, Ground Floor, Delhi High Court, seeks to provide practical solutions and techniques to cope with the stresses of the legal profession.

The Coffee Chat series, initiated as a response to the isolation faced by women lawyers during the Covid-19 pandemic, has evolved into a platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and support for women in the legal field.

The DHCWLF strives to empower and enable women lawyers practicing in the Delhi High Court and district courts, fostering solidarity through principles of Solidarity and Voluntarism.

The theme of the fourth edition of its Coffee Chat, "The Art of Happiness – Healing from Stresses as Legal Professionals," reflects the recognition of the demanding nature of the legal profession and the toll it can take on mental well-being. The event aims to create an open dialogue about mental health, providing a safe space for lawyers to express their feelings without fear of judgment.

Eminent speakers, including Justice Anup Jairam Bhambani, Justice (Retd) Poonam A Bamba, and Dr Achal Bhagat, Senior Consultant and Psychiatrist at Apollo Hospital, will share insights into the high-pressure situations faced by both the Bar and the Bench. The interactive session will offer innovative and practical solutions to address mental health challenges in the legal profession.

Acknowledging the need for a shift in mindset to dispel the stigma surrounding mental health in the legal profession, the DHCWLF emphasizes the importance of holistic well-being.

By organizing this edition of the Coffee Chat, the forum aims to assist lawyers in navigating the stressful environment inherent in their daily professional lives and fostering a sense of professional camaraderie.
