The Delhi High Court is set to start interviewing 302 lawyers who have applied for being designated Senior Advocate.

Though the first slot of interviews for 60 candidates was to be held on November 5, a subsequent notification deferred it to November 19 instead.

The interviews are now scheduled to be held at the Extension Block of the Delhi High Court on November 6, 11, 12, 13 and 19 from 4 PM.

The Senior Advocate designation rules were amended in March 2024. 

As per the new rules under the High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2024, all matters related to designation of Senior Advocates shall be dealt with by a Permanent Committee. This Committee comprises the Chief Justice and two senior-most judges of the High Court, the Additional Solicitor General, a Senior Advocate nominated by the Administrative Committee from among three lawyers suggested by the Delhi government, and a nominated member of the Bar.

A Secretariat of the Permanent Committee prepares a list of the candidates with a compilation of their data and past records. Apart from the interview component, the Permanent Committee assesses the candidates upon considering several factors such as number of years of practice, pro bono work, publications, etc.

The interviews will be conducted by the Permanent Committee.
