The Central government on Friday notified the transfer of Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shamim Ahmed to Madras High Court.

A gazetted notification to this effect was published on the website of Ministry of Law & Justice.

The Supreme Court Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, Surya Kant and Hrishikesh Roy had on August 30 rejected Justice Ahmed's request for a reconsideration of the proposal for his transfer to the Madras High Court.

The Collegium had on August 21 proposed the transfer "for better administration of justice" and consulted one of the top court judges who is conversant with the affairs of Allahabad Allahabad High Court.

The Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court were also consulted, as per the resolution.

Since the Collegium did not find any reason to accede to Justice Ahmed's request against the proposed transfer, it has reiterated its August 21 recommendation today.

Justice Ahmed was appointed an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 12, 2019, and made a permanent High Court judge on March 26, 2021. Before his elevation, he had been practicing as lawyer since 1993, dealing with civil, Constitutional, service, labour, company and criminal laws.
