The Central government on Wednesday cleared the appointment of five advocates as additional judges of the Bombay High Court for two years.
Union Minister of State for Law Arjun Ram Meghwal confirmed the appointments via his official Twitter handle and the notification was uploaded on the Law Ministry website.
The five advocates are:
Nivedita Prakash Mehta;
Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar;
Ashwin Damodar Bhobe;
Rohit Wasudeo Joshi; and
Advait Mahendra Sethna.
The appointments were made pursuant to the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 24.
As per the Collegium resolution, the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court had made the recommendation for the elevation of these five lawyers on January 19, 2024.
Bombay High Court is currently functioning with 64 judges against a sanctioned strength of 94.
