CCTV footage of Kengeri hit-and-run site retrieved: Police to Karnataka High Court

On November 2, one Dhanush who was driving his father’s car, allegedly ran over a 30-year-old woman and then tried to flee the spot.

The Bengaluru police Thursday told the Karnataka High Court it has retrieved CCTV footage and other electronic evidence from the site of the hit and run accident in the city where a where a 20-year-old student at the wheel of his father’s Mercedes-Benz ran over a woman [Shivakumar N vs The State].

The police made the submission before a bench of Justice Hemanth Chandangoudar in compliance with the Court’s previous order directing it to seize hard drives containing electronic footage of the accident.

The bench recorded the submissions and disposed of the petition filed by the deceased woman’s husband, one Shivakumar N, who claimed that the accused person’s family is an influential one and was attempting to illegally hush up the incident.

The incident took place on the evening of November 2 when the accused, one Dhanush, was allegedly driving the car in an inebriated state and ran over 30-year-old Sandhya who was crossing the road in Bengaluru's Kengeri.

As per the petitioner, while Dhanush and his friend, who was also present in the car at the time of the incident, tried to flee the spot, other motorists who witnessed the incident, caught up with the accused at a traffic signal and handed the duo over to the police.
