Appointment of Justice Mohammad Rafiq as Acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court notified

Bar & Bench

The Central Government has notified that Justice Mohammad Rafiq will take-over as the Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court once its present Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog leaves the High Court to take charge of his new office as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

Earlier this week, the Centre had notified the transfer of Chief Justice Nandrajog to the Bombay High Court, pursuant to a Collegium resolution passed on March 28. The transfer had been recommended citing the impending retirement of incumbent Bombay High Court Chief Justice NH Patil at the end of this week.

In view of the same, Justice Rafiq has now been tasked to take over the duties of the Chief Justice at the Rajasthan High Court, being the senior-most judge of the High Court after Justice Nandrajog.

The notification issued to this effect today states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Mohammad Rafiq, senior-most Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of this High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice Pradeep Nandrajog relinquishes charge of the office of the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court consequent upon his transfer as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.”
