Ninety-seven lawyers have applied for Senior Advocate designation at the Karnataka High Court.

The applications were made in response to notice issued by the High Court’s registry on April 4 this year inviting applications for the gown.

Each application submitted by the lawyers is also accompanied by written proposals by two Senior Advocates in accordance with the Karnataka High Court (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2018.

The registry has now invited suggestions from stakeholders towards scrutiny and assessment of the applications. All suggestions must be submitted by November 28 as per the notice.

The 2018 Rules assign between 10 and 20 points to each applicant for the years of his or practice and another 40 for the legal formulations advanced by them in reported and unreported judgements.

The applicants get a maximum of 15 points for publications and a maximum of 25 points on “personality and suitability” that is assessed during an interview.

In December 2021, 51 lawyers from the Karnataka High Court were designated as Senior Advocates.
