The Society for Constitutional Law Discussion is organizing a workshop on “Indian Constitution in 2022: Judicial Perspectives” on Republic Day, 26 January, 2022.

About The Society for Constitutional Law Discussion

The Society For Constitutional Law Discussion has been established by some of the students of Chanakya National Law University, Patna, with a vision to provide a platform for discourse and deliberation about constitutional law where you can write and express your opinion of different issues related to constitutional law fearlessly. The Society, through its E-magazine and blogs, intends to serve as a platform for students, academicians, and practitioners to engage in constitutional law discussion and writing.

About the Workshop / Concept Note

The Supreme Court of India has time and again maintained that the Constitution is a living or organic document and is not meant to be confined in its interpretation; it was drafted to survive for, without any summit clause. Supreme Court and several High Courts have mandated that the chapter on Fundamental Rights in the Constitution is sacrosanct, and the Constitution is important because it protects individual freedom.

The word judicial activism has become a common discussion point with the people appalled on orders of the court on the issues concerning covid-19, elections amidst the pandemic, unconstitutionality of State OBC List, the contempt petitions, central vista project, farms bill and many such contemporary socio-legal issues. The workshop shall discuss the wider interpretation of the Constitution by the Apex Court and the relevance of the Indian Constitution in the contemporary world.
