The Alliance School of Law instituted in 2012 is an integral part of Alliance University imparting state-of-the-art legal education.
Since its inception, the focus of the School of Law has been to ensure that teaching and research are promoted and that an interactive, value-laden legal platform is created. The University boasts of a sturdy infrastructure and experienced faculty members, and has been continuously striving to achieve higher levels of academic excellence by focusing on an improvised system of legal education, including clinical legal education.
Needless to say, an improvised system of legal education not only produces imaginative and thoughtful law-abiding citizens it also helps in the promotion of a knowledge-management framework that supports the formation and application of value-generating systems and processes. In terms of course design, the programmes of the School of Law are curated and tailored in accordance with the needs of the law students and in consonance with the requirements of the National Education Policy, 2020, the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India. The curriculum and the pedagogy have been streamlined and updated accordingly.
While rendering academic instructions, faculty members embrace a combination of collaborative and reflective approaches to augment diverse learning modules, including e-learning, and online interactive learning. Some of the programmes are also administered with the help of Information and Communication tools and technologies. The knowledge produced and disseminated by such pedagogical approaches has fostered research and development initiatives among the law students and has encouraged entrepreneurial ventures in them.
The Alliance School of Law offers programmes both at the undergraduate, post-graduate and post-post-graduate levels. The various programmes offered are as follows:
BALLB (Hons) or Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Law (Honors)
BBALLB (Hons) or Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Law (Honors)
LLB or Bachelor of Law
LLM or Master of Law
PhD or Doctor of Philosophy
Research has been an intrinsic part of the Alliance School of Law. Since its genesis, the School of Law incentivized faculty members for conducting cutting-edge empirical and doctrinal research work. The School has seven research centres, namely, Criminal Justice Administration and Gender Studies, Alliance Center of Corporate and Commercial Law, Alliance Center of Alternate Dispute Resolution, Alliance Center of Global Affairs and International Relations, Alliance Centre on Constitutional and Administrative Law, Alliance Center on Intellectual Property Rights and Alliance Center on Sports Law, which conduct workshops, training sessions, seminars, etc., on an orderly basis.
Other than the aforementioned research centers, the School of Law has recently created the Centre of Excellence in Public Policy, Sustainability and ESG Research (CEPPSER) to promote research on critical areas that intersect law, public policy, administration, governance, etc. Focusing on the complex yet dynamic relationship between law and public policy, the Centre aims to underscore the relevance of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches in understanding the operation of laws in the changing socio-legal and socio-political context. The Centre is offering the following programmes in the Academic session 2024-25:
BA (Hons.) or Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Public Administration
BA (Hons.) or Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Public Policy
BA (Hons.) or Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Politics & Governance
The CEPPSER also offers merit-based scholarships to those who are willing to enroll in any of the three aforementioned programmes. Apart from the undergraduate programmes, the CEPPSER also plans to offer postgraduate programmes in the future.
Besides endorsing trend-setting teaching and research, the Alliance School of Law, in pursuance of its universalistic liberal legal education policy, has allocated resources towards the development of clinical legal education platforms such as the Alliance Moot Court Society and the Alliance University Legal Services Clinic. The School of Law has also entered into synergistic collaborations with institutions that are interested in advancing clinical legal education in India. Such endeavors coupled with initiatives from individual faculty members have significantly improved the quality of legal education, including clinical legal education. Notwithstanding a few impediments, legal education in the Alliance School of Law has developed as a unique field of inquiry, incorporating diverse academic objectives and advocating value-laden, skill-based production of legal knowledge.
As we gradually move towards a knowledge-driven economy, institutions of legal learning such as the Alliance School of Law engage themselves in the formation, diffusion, and execution of valid legal knowledge. The Alliance School of Law strives to uphold a progressive legal education policy that supports skill enhancement and sharing of legal knowledge. It also attempts to promote a symbiotic learning environment, focusing on active learning, learning-through-doing and blended learning.
